National Indigenous Education Symposium (NIES) 2023 Outcomes Report

In 2023, Medow Consulting developed the outcomes report, Postsecondary education and training for the whole person, community, and Nation, for the Indigenous Institutes Consortium (IIC). The report summarizes the key themes and directions for change from the National Indigenous Education Symposium (NIES), an annual gathering jointly hosted by the IIC and Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) to advance dialogue and collaboration in Indigenous post-secondary education and training. NIES 2023 was held in Treaty 4 Territory (Regina, Saskatchewan) and brought together more than 260 participants from Indigenous Institutes, postsecondary institutions, stakeholder organizations, industry, and government. 
Key Directions for Change
The report identifies three foundational focus areas for strengthening Indigenous post-secondary education: driving institution-level change to increase capacity, improve outcomes, and enhance accountability; creating system-level conditions for success for Indigenous learners, communities, and Nations; and strengthening relationships and networks to support long-term systemic change.
